Holidays Never Change
For every major holiday, my family likes to do similar activities every year. On the day before Thanksgiving, my grandma, my mom, and I cook all day at my house. I usually peel potatoes and apples and cut vegetables and fruit for salads while my mom and grandma do the apple, pumpkin, and chocolate pies. On the next day, my mom puts the turkey in the oven around 10:00am, with the stuffing in the turkey. While the turkey cooks, my brothers and I do chores around the house. At 5:00pm my cousins and grandparents arrive at my house and we all have a wonderful Thanksgiving together.
When Christmas comes around, we plan on going to my grandparents’ house in Dearborn on Christmas Eve with my cousins to open presents. My grandma always makes a spaghetti dinner with salad, bread, and meatballs. We stay at my grandparents’ house until 11:30 then we head back to Livonia to St. Aidan’s Church for Midnight Mass.
On Christmas morning, I wake my family up at around 9:00am to open presents. After presents are done, we open a movie we got and watch it together. For the rest of the day, we just relax and have a nice dinner.
The next major holiday that we have traditions for is Easter. Every Easter, my family and grandparents go to New Orleans, Louisiana. We arrive there a few days before Easter and enjoy Cajun meals such at crawfish and gumbo. On Easter day, there are many parades in the streets where residents are sponsored by companies to but on parades. At the parades, people on the floats toss Mardi Gras necklaces, candy, and stuffed animals, usually bunnies or ducks since it is Easter. Then all of the floats stop at the St. Louis Cathedral in Jackson Square where the whole town celebrates Easter Mass.
